Welcome to Karen In Yogaland!  As you might have guessed, I’m Karen and I love yoga. Perhaps borderline obsessed.  Um, actually nope, just obsessed.  So obsessed that I quit my super smartypants economist job, dropped everything behind and went to India to deepen my knowledge in yoga.  Knowledge is another one of my obsessions but more about that another time…  Anyways, fast forward a year later, I find myself living in Melbourne teaching yoga, and never looked back!

I started yoga really as an alternative to any tremendously strenuous exercise like running, super scary cardio gym classes, any form of dancing given my lack of co-ordination…  But boy was I wrong about the strenuous part!  The thing that set yoga apart from all those other forms of exercise is the focus on breathing and being present that allowed me to, well, remain present, and not drift off when the class got too tough, or I got bored, or my legs refuse to take another step, which tends to happen quite often at all the other gym classes and then I leave and never go back.  But yoga, I just kept going back.

In fact, I started trying out all styles of yoga to see which one I liked best.  It was like a yoga buffet!  And I found out there’s a different kind of yoga for every occasion, and a mix of everything was what I liked best.  I mean, we don’t eat the same food everyday, we like variety, and why should it be any different with yoga?  Soon I came to understand that everyone is different, and each body is different, and so that is also the way I teach nowadays – providing many variations and modifications in group classes, so suit the needs of every individual.

So in Yogaland you will find my very outspoken views on yoga and other things in life (c’mon, I was an economist, I say things as I analyse them, no offense intended), classes and workshops if you want to get your yoga on with me.  If you don’t want to have to do the yoga yourself, you can get a Thai Yoga Massage with me, or friend me on Facebook and we can stalk each other as we procrastinate from doing any real work.

Namaste,

Karen Chow

*Me doing yoga all over the show.  Yes backbends are my favourite poses and find out why here.
